Safety of Alaska Milk Products Assured

Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) described the on-going melamine-tainted milk crisis in China as unfortunate and expressed its outmost sympathy to the victims. AMC Vice President for Corporate Affairs Santiago A. Polido said that the milk situation in China does not in anyway affect the company.

Polido stated that AMC has never imported from China skimmed milk powder as an ingredient in any of its products. AMC locally manufactures and distributes liquid, powdered and ready-to-drink milk products under brand names Alaska, Carnation, Alpine, Milkmaid and Liberty. "Our skimmed milk powder and UHT products primarily come from New Zealand, Australia and USA," he added.

Polido stressed that strict health and safety standards have always been an utmost commitment of AMC to its stakeholders as the company continues to enforce rigid quality assurance procedures in manufacturing all of its milk products. "AMC shall continue to work with the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) to guarantee the high level of quality of all Alaska milk products," he said.
